… The researcher’s conduct – personal ethics in the pursuit of research In research that is conducted ethically the researchers need to maintain their professional integrity. The All European Academies (ALLEA) publication “The European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity” states the fundamental principles on which good research practice is based. Some research may only be conducted if it has passed an ethical review. You apply for a permit for research involving humans via the Swedish Ethical Review Authority, in accordance with the Swedish Ethical Review Act (SFS 2003:460). The law is there to protect human beings – physically and mentally – and their integrity. Researcher ethics is about the researcher's relationship to the research task or research assignment itself. Research ethics is about conducting the research in a way that takes into account and protects the various participants and research subjects affected by the research.

Animal experiments must only be conducted where no alternative methods are available. Depending on the type of research you plan to conduct, you may need other permits. Expert Group on Ethics The Expert Group advises the Swedish Research Council on issues relating to ethics. The Expert Group has seven members, representing the areas of ethics, law, medicine and health, natural and engineering sciences, and the humanities and social sciences.
